Today, as we honor the brave men and women who have given their lives in America's wars, let us remember the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: "Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility." The highest honor we can give to the fallen is our redoubled commitment to fight for the democratic ideals and freedoms for which they died.
Yes - It's that time of the month again - the DWC June Breakfast will take place Friday, June 1 at 7:30am at the Village Deli.
The traditional breakfast program after an election is to have our endorsed candidates speak about their experiences. We’ll get the scoop on their races, highlights of their efforts over the past 4 months, and hear how their association with the DWC affected their campaigns. Some of the questions that might be asked are: why they decided to run, who helped them make that decision, how they found folks to help them in their races and what they need from DWC members going forward. We’ll probably also take a few questions from the audience.
If you were unable to attend the lunch on the Friday after the election (and even if you were) come be inspired by these women who have put themselves forward to serve the people of Monroe County and beyond and given them a rousing send off in their fight to win in November.

Democracy Summer with Liz for Indiana
Democracy Summer with Liz for Indiana is a one-of-a-kind political Democratic Fellowship that teaches high school and college students the nuts and bolts of political organizing. Fellows will learn the arts of electoral mobilization, the critical issues of the day, and the history of progressive politics. Fellows are part of a larger movement working to help Democratic candidates win key elections in swing districts across the country and elect a true-blue Democratic Congress in 2018! Democracy Summer works with fellows across the district, and we'll meet in Bloomington once a week. Fellows will:
* Participate in canvassing, phone banking, and online organizing efforts
* Work fundraisers, fairs, parades, farmers markets, and events in support of the Liz for Indiana campaign and important causes
* Learn from progressive policy activists, elected officials, candidates and campaign staff
* Participate in skills-building workshops with leading organizers and activists
* Learn about the non-profit sector, public policy, and electoral politics and career paths in these areas.
Fellows are not paid but the campaign will work with them to apply for school credit. They will receive a first-class political education, grow a network of friends, and can request recommendation letters for college or graduate school upon completion. Hoosier Women Forward Leadership Development Program
Sometime in the coming week Hoosier Women Forward will launch the application for the first class of its leadership development program. They’re looking for Democratic women across the state who are interested in public policy, political advocacy, and moving Indiana forward with progressive policies and ideas. They’re seeking applicants with compelling personal and professional life experiences—reflecting the economic, geographical, ethnic, and cultural diversity in Indiana. They need women who are deeply interested in, and can commit to, a nine-month program focusing on study, field experience, and political leadership training. They’re not just looking for Hoosier women who want to run for public office but women who are interested in gaining the skills needed to hold leadership roles in their communities that will effect positive change—from campaign manager, to school board, to head of a nonprofit, to state and federal office. Between 20 and 25 Hoosier women will be selected for the inaugural class. Know anyone who fits this description? The City of Bloomington Office of the City Clerk is accepting applications to fill a vacant position on the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association. The position is available for representatives of businesses located within the City’s Enterprise Zone.
The Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association works to spur economic development in Bloomington’s urban core and contributes to creating or retaining thousands of jobs in the community.

Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story - 5pm
"More than just a pretty face." In the 1930's and 40's, Lamarr was considered the world's most beautiful woman. Never taken seriously in her lifetime - and manipulated by powerful men (sound familiar?) - Lamarr never got the recognition she deserved. But during WWII, she worked on top secret projects for the U.S. military.
RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg - 7:30pm
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg has created a breathtaking legal legacy for women's rights while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon. The personal journey of this diminutive, quiet warrior's rise to the nation's highest court during a hostile time for women, is revealed in this inspiring and multidimensional portrait. Now 85, Ginsburg refuses to relinquish her passionate duty, and continues to have equally vigorous dissenting opinions and exercise workouts.

Join Team Liz at "A Walk In The Park" Outreach and Community Clean-Up
Tuesday May 29 Noon–1:00pm
The Indiana Recovery Alliance is hosting a community clean up leaving the IRA Office, 118 S. Rogers St., Suite 2 at noon, then heading down the B-Line Trail, over to Seminary Square Park and back up the alley between Walnut and Washington to 4th St. They will look for improperly disposed supplies, do some outreach and enjoy an afternoon walk. Team Liz is encouraging supporters to join them for the event as a good opportunity to give back to the community, hang out with friends and have a good time. Wear your Liz shirts.

Please mark your calendars for a Party meeting on Thursday, May 31st. The first part of the meeting will be geared towards delegates and what we need to do to prepare for the convention on June 16 in Indianapolis. The second part of the meeting will be an orientation for Precinct Committee People.

We'll be hearing from survivors in our community, some of our high school leaders and city and county officials who support our movement to demand common sense gun policy reform.
