We hope that everyone made it through last weekend’s storms ok, it’s scary to think that this may be only the tip of the iceberg as far as storms and rainfall to come…. Apart from knocking out the internet out where I am dog sitting, I came through unscathed and everything is finally back on line late tonight.
An apology to anyone who might have showed up at Switchyard Brewery on Saturday night… unfortunately it’s easy to miss the email header when composing the Monday Morning News unless you send out a test email which I didn’t do because the email was so brief and time was short. If you did head out to the pub I hope you enjoyed a pint or a glass of cider and found someone with whom to share a story, even if it wasn’t us…
And a big thank you to everyone who came out to one of our listening sessions this week or submitted their thoughts on line… We have a lot to process and think about but some of the big takeaways were a desire for an increased emphasis on training, not only of candidates, but also for campaign managers, workers and precinct committee people. Women also wanted to see more alternative meeting times and types in addition to the breakfasts… lunches, social hours and perhaps an expanded choice of venues that go beyond downtown into different areas of the county.
Our final official listening session (for now) will be at our regular breakfast meeting on July 5th… after which we’ll be looking at all the suggestions and working on putting them into an action plan.

Upcoming Trainings:
The Indiana Democratic Party is hosting back to back Municipal Candidate Trainings. They will be in Elkhart County at the Ivy Tech campus from 9:30am to 3:30pm on Saturday, June 22. Then for those living in Southern Indiana, we will be at the French Lick Hotel from 12:30pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, June 23.
Both of these candidate trainings will provide you with tools needed to run a successful campaign in 2019! They will be presenting on fundraising, building a field program, campaign messaging, and more.

On June 28-30 the Noble County Democrats will host the 2019 Tri-State Cornfield Conference at the Noble County Fairgrounds in Kendallville. Based on the 1938 Great Cornfield Conference that turned around the fortunes of the Indiana Republican Party after devastating losses in the 1936 Elections, the 2019 event hopes to create the same success for Indiana Democrats. The conference will focus on Democratic Issues of importance to citizens in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The First 2020 Democratic Presidential Debates have been announced:
The first presidential primary debate will feature back-to-back primetime broadcasts aired on NBC and MSNBC on consecutive nights to ensure each candidate gets access to a primetime audience. Booker, Warren, O'Rourke, Klobuchar, Delaney, Gabbard, Castro, Ryan, de Blasio, and Inslee will debate on June 26th and Harris, Biden, Buttigieg, Sanders, Gillibrand, Bennet, Williamson, Swalwell, Yang, and Hickenlooper will debate on June 27th. Bullock, Messam, and Moulton did not qualify for the debate.
The Democratic National Committee has sanctioned up to 12 debates starting in June of 2019, with the early debates possibly featuring back-to-back nights of primetime broadcasts.

The 2019 Citizens' Academy class will provide participants with an interactive learning experience about municipal government services, programs and departmental responsibilities.
