WE MISSED YOU AT FRIDAY'S BREAKFAST!
First off we celebrated the fact that for the first time in a number of years we will have four, 4, FOUR! women on the city council. It only took us three election cycles to get there, but we did it! Congrats to Dorothy Granger, Isabel Piedmont-Smith andAllison Chopra who will serve along with incumbent Susan Sandberg on the 2016-2020 council. Congrats to Nicole Bolden who will serve as City Clerk for the same four year term.
Our program speaker, Rachel Guiglielmo, local Mom's Demand Action for Gun Sense member, spoke about organizing to influence state legislators to pass common sense gun laws that will help prevent mass shootings.
Rachel also answered questions and told us about the group's next activity, a discussion on ending gun violence on campus, and screening of film "Living for 32" -- a documentary on the Virginia Tech shooting and the efforts of one of its survivors, Colin Goddard, to educate and advocate on the issue of gun violence prevention in its wake.

SUFFRAGETTE!!
Last, we announced the plan to have a private screening of the film"Suffragette" next week. We're negotiating with AMC on the West side where the movie will be shown starting on November 20th. We'd like to have a PREVIEW private showing for you, your friends, and your guests.
Julie Thomas has agreed to open the festivities with a brief introduction to the British women's suffrage movement in relation to the US efforts, keying us on on what to watch for and contributing to the all 'round enjoyment of the film.
We'll be selling tickets and sending out info as we finalize the event. We'll have special door prizes and other special delights!
If you're interested in the private screening tentatively set for 7 pm on Thursday, November 19th, please email your intent to Dorothy Granger at [email protected]. We need to guarantee 50-75 seats, but if response is good, we may need a bigger theater!

If you are not a precinct committee person in District 4, you won’t be able to vote, but it’s very interesting to attend to watch the candidate presentations and voting. You are welcome to come.

The City of Bloomington Safe and Civil City Program will present the second program in the "Community Conversations with Law Enforcement" series, on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 401 N. Morton Street.
This forum will explore the impact of mass and social media on our views of policing and how those forces shape and influence our perceptions and realities.
This discussion will include representatives from the Bloomington Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Indiana University Police Department and Indiana State Police Department. It will be moderated by Indiana University professor of Criminal Justice, Akwasi O. Bempah. Community members will be given an opportunity to publicly and privately meet with members from the respective law enforcement agencies.

Join Moms Demand Gun Sense for a screening of "Living for 32," a documentary on the Virginia Tech shooting, with special guests Colin Goddard, survivor of the shooting and Senior Policy Advocate at Everytown for Gun Safety, and Paul Helmke, director of the Civic Leaders Program at IU-Bloomington and former President of the Brady Campaign. Screening is at 3; doors open at 2:30.

The Book Signing/Reunion with Former Mayor Tomi Allison
All Democrats are invited to a book signing/reunion occasioned by The Accidental Mayor, Tomi Allison's book about her term as Mayor of Bloomington (1983-1995). Many members of her team are returning for a 20-year reunion Saturday, Nov. 21, 2-4 p.m., at City Hall Atrium. It will be a great chance to see some old friends from the McCloskey and Allison administrations
