Mix and Mingle with new PPINK CEO Christie Gillespie
We loved Betty Cockrum and all the work she did for Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, and wish her well in her well deserved retirement.
So now come and meet her successor. Christie Gillespie will be the guests of members Doris Sims and Lisa Abbott as she gets to know the communities that PPINK serves. 5:30pm, Tuesday, August 22 at Grazie's Italiano.
How long is too long?
Although the MCCSC School Board members do not run with a political party, they still follow some precepts of democratic elections. Except for one thing. The concept of representation on the board is a little skewed when it's not necessary for them to pay attention to the school board districts being equal in population. The last time these districts were redrawn was 1996. Check out the petition and other facts at the link below.

Women's Equality Day is Saturday, August 26. According to the National Women's History Project, the date for Women's Equality Day "was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York."

The State of Girls in Indiana.
Well, Indiana ranks 34th in overall well being. That's not so good, really, as the research by the Girl Scouts USA research arm. They studied 13 measures across education, extra-curricular activies, physical and emotional health and socioeconomic indicators. The report on Indiana girls was presented by Deborah Hearn Smith, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana in Bloomington last Friday. The link to the report follows.

The Call to Caucus has been made, the Precinct Committee Persons who represent city precincts have been summoned to City Hall at the above date to elect a city council member at-large. Anyone is invited to watch the proceedings, but only precinct chairs (or their proxies) can ask questions of the candidates and vote.
