Friday, June 5, 7:30 am! Village Deli on Kirkwood

Miffed about TIFs??
Both the City of Bloomington and Monroe County have recently tackled TIF issues -- extending, aggregating, discussing, debating.
What do you know about them?
What does "TIF" mean, anyway?
Why should we be concerned?
What’s all the fuss?

All this and more will be addressed at Friday’s breakfast meeting.  Judy Sharp, County Assessor will be presenting all the answers to the TIF questions above and more.

Come to find out all you need to know to follow the TIF issues that impact our city and county’s ability to provide services.

Our promise – it won’t be as ‘dry’ as it sounds!!  Really!!

CONDOLENCES
Our most heartfelt condolences go out this week to Charlotte Zietlow and her family on the loss of Paul Zietlow. He inspired many, many students and colleagues, friends and Democrats. His memorial service will be held at Deer Park Manor at 4 pm on Monday, June 8th.

CONGRATS TO EFRAT!
Efrat Feferman was elected the Vice Chair of the Monroe Democrats last week. Precinct chairs and vice chairs gathered to replace Susan Sandberg who resigned within the past month.  Efrat’s former position was that of the Secretary of the MCDP.  Efrat’s election to MCDP now leaves an opening in the Secretary position.  According to party rules, another caucus must be held to replace her, again with precinct chairs and vice chairs voting.  Mark Fraley, MCDP Chair will announce the date shortly, and that caucus will take place within the next 30 days.  Until the formal call to caucus, Mark invites anyone interested in serving in that position to contact him at [email protected]

The DWC especially thanks Susan Sandberg for her service as Vice Chair and her many hours of planning, training, listening to and supporting activities for the betterment of the Monroe County Democratic Party and Democratic Candidates.

EVENTS

TUESDAY -- WEAR ORANGE
June 2 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

#wearingorange
A host of organizations have come together to create the first National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and are encouraging people all over to wear orange, tweet, check in on facebook, and generally increase awareness of friends and family members about gun violence.
This idea originated with a group of Chicago teens who asked their classmates to commemorate the life of a slain friend by wearing orange. They chose the color because hunters wear orange to announce themselves to other hunters when out in the woods. Their friend -- Hadiya Pendleton, a 15 year old high school student -- marched in President Obama’s 2nd inaugural parade and was tragically shot and killed back in Chicago just a week later.
