Breakfast Recap
The regular breakfast meeting of the DWC took place last Friday at the Village Deli.
We hosted Dana Black, Democratic Candidate for House District 88, who decided to run for this office when she voted two years ago, and there was only one candidate for the office: the Republican (who has served for 30 years).
Dana inspired us all with her message, her amazing strength and energy! And she received many donations to her campaign!
Dana sent this note:
Thank you doesn't begin to express the gratitude I feel. The time spent with the Democratic Women's Caucus Friday morning was an unforgettable treat for me. You ladies have been motivating and encouraging this campaign from the first time we met and I am forever grateful for the positive energy you share with me.
Having the opportunity to share our campaign message with progressive forward thinking individuals is the motivating factor that pushes us to work hard to win this seat. The energy of your group is contagious, I wish I could bottle it up and bring some of it back up to Indy with me.
We have a lot of work to do in Indiana, and in order to make sure Hoosier families receive the necessary tools to be successful, we must work to change the super majority in the general assembly. Your support of progressive candidates like Penny Githens, Lacy Hollings and myself will help us be the voice of change Indiana needs. We can prevent the introduction of bills that deny women choices over their bodies. We can make sure our children are getting both the physical and mental nourishment they need to have prosperous lives. Together we can create the change we seek.
Thank you again for the incredible hospitality, and please let me know how I can help on any future endeavors. I don't live in Bloomington, but I am your neighbor for life.

EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAM
Emerging Leaders Applications Now Being Accepted until June 15th
The Emerging Leaders Project is a free, year-long program designed to engage up-and-coming Democrats from across the state who have the potential and interest in being party leaders and elected officials. Over the course of the year, the 40 men and women (under age 40) who are selected to participate, will attend in-person training sessions in Indianapolis focusing on various aspects of campaign management, public policy and party building. Along with the knowledge gained from the training, class members will connect with Democrats from all corners of Indiana. Developed and operated by volunteers, the program is supported by a generous donation from former State Party Chair Robin Winston and former State Party Executive Director Pat Terrell.
NOTE: Several women from Monroe County have graduated from this program and have run for office.

Advocating for the Schools Our Kids Need: Roundtable Conversations -- June 8, 6:30 - 8pm

Supporters of public education invite you to learn more about the issues facing teachers and schools and impacting our community's children and their futures. Moderated round table conversations will cover the following topics:
ALEC (Do you know how it affects education policy in local schools?),
MCCSC referendum, standardized testing, social justice and equity, vouchers and charters, and
how you can advocate for our community's children, schools, and teachers.
The event is sponsored by the Monroe County chapter of the Indiana Coalition for Public Education.

Meet & Greet the National Delegate Candidates -- June 11th, 2 - 4 pm - The Pine Room-Muddy Boots, 51 E. Chestnut St., Nashville, IN
On June 18th, state convention delegates will be voting for folks to represent Indiana at the National Democratic Convention in Philadelphia, PA. This is your opportunity to meet those who are running from the 9th Congressional District, talk to them and decide who would be the best ones to send. State Convention Delegates will choose either Sanders or Clinton delegate ballots and make their choices from those who have filed.
McCloskey Picnic! -- June 12, 1 - 5 pm.
The Monroe County Democrats' Club will host the 5th Annual McCloskey Memorial Picnic on Sunday, June 12, from 1-5, at the Sycamore Shelter House in Cascades Park. The Club will provide barbecue, table service and lemonade and iced tea. We'll also have vegan sloppy-joes! Bring a side-dish to share. Candidate Bill Breeden (House District 46) will lead a sing-along--so bring your instruments and join in the fun. The public is invited to attend. Hope to see you there!
